Poetry

If ever there was a poetic fruit, pears are it. Possibly pomegranates, strawberries, peaches, grapes, and certainly mangoes. Well, there goes the plug for my poetic pear.

Sugar Cookies

I have been making these sugar cookies since I was a young teenager.  Love them!  They initially came from my sister's good friend, Jill R., but it may have changed a bit over the years.

1/2 c. buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
1 lb. butter/margarine
2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp almond extract
4 eggs
6+ c. flour

Add soda to buttermilk.  Let sit while you cream butter, sugar, extract and eggs.  Alternate adding flour and milk.  Roll out and cut into shapes. (may need to refrigerate for about an hour if it is too warm) Bake at 375* for 5-6 mins. Do not over-bake!  They will puff up.
